FOOD AND RUNNING

People who run must have extra care with their bones and muscles.

Calcium must be ingested together with D vitamin in order to be absorbed by our bodies. Too much Calcium and we get calcification, too little and our bones will break. The optimum amount is determined by our own processes of osmosis, but one can find out how their absorption processes are doing by, for instance, observing their knees and joints, massaging them, and others.

The government of the United States of America suggests that we should eat a serve of grains, protein, fruits, dairy, and vegetables in each meal (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505125_162-48440869/michelle-obama-fill-half-your-plate-with-fruitsveggies/) whilst people who have studied nutrition suggest that colors tell about nutrients (http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/yf/foods/fn595.pdf), so that the more variety in the colors we have on our plates, the better our nutrition is.

Easy things to observe are teeth and nails, as for Calcium levels. Nails should look pink, and the redder they look the better. The teeth should be white and strong: The more transparent the teeth are, also the sorer, the worse.

Important for those who run is also the color of their skin: The whiter they are, the more care they should take in what regards the sun, for instance (having the sunscreen on the skin is a good preventive measure. Since the ozone hole was told to be right over Australia in 2000, one should realistically not relax in those regards here. The higher the protection factor is, the better. Our sunscreen should not be greasy because we then may have sprinkles of it falling into our eyes, for instance, and some are of so bad quality that we could even get blind when that happens, even if only temporarily). Stained skin usually means deficiency in terms of vitamins. D vitamin is one that counts here for sure. Eggs and salami have D vitamin (http://www.healthaliciousness.com/articles/high-vitamin-D-foods.php).

A good indicator of health in terms of skin is the eyes: We would like to examine the bottom of our eyes in this case and find them to be as red as possible, since pale bottoms indicate not enough A vitamin. Carrots are an excellent source of A vitamin, as we know.

As we run, we get more air over and into us, also more pollution, so that it would be wise that we consumed products to prevent allergenic manifestations and flus. A glass of C vitamin-based fruit juice and a spoon of honey could then represent great aid. There is something really healthy about the bees’ juice: It helps us heal from several health problems.

Protein is the most mentioned of the needs of the runners. People are used to hear that the body needs what to burn and that is where the protein comes into play. One must understand that if we have sugar and fat in our metabolism, those will prevent the protein from burning, but only protein may help us develop our muscles, and that is why we need more time performing physical activity to get the same result in terms of burning calories, or in terms of finally getting to the muscle, if we have more fat and sugar inside, therefore if we are more flaccid.

One must also understand that we need to have some protein inside of our bodies when we run, like nobody can be bulimic and run, for instance, for that would lead to the organism, basically, eating itself.

We should also worry about our blood circulation as we run, since effort plus bad circulation may lead to much more serious injury than relaxation plus bad circulation. An unnoticed clot in our bodies may make us lose our body parts. Some foods thin the blood, which is what we would like to be doing to avoid that. One of the things that are told to do that job is red wine (http://alcoholism.about.com/od/health/a/blacer051015.htm). One would imagine, however, that products that actually break sugars and fats in the kitchen would be those that would break them inside of our bodies, so that acids in general could help (http://www.thekitchn.com/help-us-clean-the-baked-grease-144040. Soda, lemon, vinegar, and hot water are mentioned here). One of the worst known acids is Coke (http://www.ehow.com/how_7439814_use-coke-clear-drains.html). People are told to have used Coke to unblock pipes. Notice that we can break fats and sugars with our hands, sometimes putting a lot of effort in the activity of squeezing. Therefore, massaging our body, especially as in Deep Tissue Massage, can only help dissolving clots. We can actually massage our veins if we want.

To have a good digestion, and that would be essential, since nobody wants to have to interrupt the run to visit the toilet, we should consume products that help us digest food, such as raisins, cereal, and wholemeal breads (http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/articles/1966/wellness/food-to-help-digestive-system.html).

Another thing that we probably should worry about is poisoning. By running, we make it easier that our body absorbs the air around, so that it would be wise consuming things that help with poisoning by gas, which is a major concern in human kind (gas from vehicles, for instance). Milk is well known to help with cases of intoxication, so that a glass of milk per day would be a wise choice.

In those regards, powdered milk seems to be the best product because of the wealth of nutrition in it (especially if prepared for babies) and its shelving life.

Water matters quite a lot. People talk about consuming lots of water when doing physical exercise not to end up having problems of the type fainting, which is usually caused by low blood pressure. Our organs seem to need hydration at all times. The color of our pee should tell us how much we need: The more transparent the pee, the less we need to consume water. Ideally, our pee would be of the color of the own water at all times.

We have found out that we should be consuming water with sodium, not pure water, as we exercise. Please see Dancing x Running: Extreme fighting (on this very blog).

Some foods slow us down and others speed us up. Since we want to run, we should consume those that speed us up and avoid those that slow us down. Fats and sugars will slow us down for sure.

White rice, bread, and sugar seem to be the ultimate toxin for those who run. They may have carbs, which is an alias that we got used to hear, but they do not bring nutrition. Even though one could oppose what we say arguing that the white bread has eggs, milk, and others, the truth is that one can only get real nutrition from the dark breads. Refined sugars are not a necessity for us and lie to the side of the exclusively harmful. We should prefer honey, aspartame, and sugar cane to white/refined sugar, in case we feel the need of having that sort of taste in our mouths. Dark rice is much more valuable than white rice, especially if it comes with the skin.
